A series of material explorations with hand made indigo watercolour on photo lithographs, these were made as a response to my research about the Indigo plantations in America and the Caribbean. Some of my research lead me to African and African Caribbean writing systems. I wanted to create my own language to describe the essence of my findings, and also use some of the symbolism which emerged as a tool of communication during the 18th / 19th Century. All drawings are layered onto a reproduced lithographed document which dates back to 1834.
